Our Talking Schools Project supports young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

Third Space Bolton wants to help young people and young adults overcome the obstacles to their social, mental, physical and spiritual well-being.

Third Space is a term that means your ‘leisure time’.
(First Space is your family time, Second Space is your working day)

Third Space can be a vital space to reflect and talk about our lives in our First and Second Spaces as well as the bigger questions of life.

  • Our mission is to inspire, unite, empower and support people to live healthy and fulfilled lives; to provide a respected and valued safe space – where young people and adults receive effective support to meet their needs.
  • Our vision is for a Bolton where there is no longer a need for our charitable work; to witness greater faith literacy in our town, greatly reduced rates of mental illness, anxiety, depression and suicide ideation; and an increase in effective pathways to enable recovery from alcohol and drugs and other damaging addictions.

Our Social Enterprise Project supports work opportunities for people facing extreme challenges in getting a job.

  • In our work over the past decade, we have seen that those experiencing the profound effects of poverty and social isolation, and those with health conditions, are significantly more disadvantaged by unemployment and worklessness. So, in order to help achieve our core mission and vision, we are committed to addressing these major barriers to economic activity for all.
  • To this end we have formed a delivery partnership to help address this problem through social enterprise. Jerico is a charity based in Birmingham with 30 years’ experience of running social enterprises with similar objectives to ours. Farnworth Baptist Church is based in an area of Bolton with high levels of deprivation and provides a range of services to help people address their needs. Other agencies and suitably skilled and experienced individuals are helping to support development of our enterprises through an Advisory Panel established for this purpose.  Through our broad-based Partnership we aim to provide hope, work skills, positive life transformational experiences, holistic personal support and transitional employment for people facing multiple barriers to work.
  • Our social enterprises will bridge the gap between the world of work and the seemingly endless spiral of worklessness. We will help individuals gain confidence, skills, and stability — paving their way to long-term, sustainable employment and improved wellbeing.  At the same time, we will be providing much needed and valued services in the community.

    And so:

  • Our social enterprise mission is to revitalise communities through a thriving network of inclusive employment enterprises that provide real work, real wages, and real change targeting Bolton’s most deprived areas.

  • Our social enterprise vision is to see a much more resilient Bolton where everyone can fulfil their potential through meaningful work and community contribution.
